DEVONthink™ 2.0

Your Smart Information Assistant

Version 2.0 is the next major update for all editions of DEVONthink and for DEVONnote. It brings a largely rewritten database core as well as a many, many usability and interface improvements.

At the moment, DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.0 have been released as public betas, pre-final versions that are stable and useable but are missing two or three planned features that will be added during the public beta phase.
 

New Features and Improvements

Primary new features and improvements in DEVONthink include but are not limited to:

Use the improved search with advanced Boolean and proximity search operators (as known from DEVONagent) and an unlimited complexity of search terms. Save even the most complex searches as seamlessly integrated smart groups.

Quickly save documents to the universal inbox and file them properly later. The new trash keeps documents up until you empty it. Unlimited undo and redo make using DEVONthink more comfortable and safe.

Open more than one database at the same time (Pro and Pro Office only) and view or edit multiple documents next to each other in tabs. Cover Flow lets you quickly browse all the documents in a group.

Add data to any DEVONthink Pro database or write down notes using the independent Sorter. Connect the Sorter to specific groups in your databases and drop documents or clippings to them even when DEVONthink is not open.

The 'Clip to DEVONthink' bookmarklet for Safari, Firefox, and all other web browsers supporting bookmarkets, lets you save selected text or whole web pages to a database with just one click as plain text, web archive, PDF, or HTML.

Convert your scans to searchable PDFs. DEVONthink preserves the original design of the pages but adds an invisible text layer that makes all recognized text selectable and searchable The new OCR engine is based on ABBYY FineReader which is more accurate and more reliable than the engine used in earlier versions.

All documents are stored as-is now, you can edit them using any external application and link to them using a standard URL. DEVONthink 2.0 supports many more common file formats, e.g., Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, iWork files, or Skim files. It also indexes and displays all files supported by or supporting Spotlight and Quicklook, e.g., Mellel.

Smart document templates add new pre-styled designed documents to your database and even fill them out for you. Add your own templates with just one click. The much improved RSS feed support integrates news feeds with the rest of your documents (Pro and Pro Office only).

Share your databases and let your colleagues access your DEVONthink through the new interactive web interface based on the latest web technologies. Your Windows friends are invited, too, of course — and so are iPhone and iPod touch. Click here to see it in action.

Upgrade Options

DEVONthink 2.0 is currently in public beta and does not need a valid license code to work (only DEVONthink Pro Office is restricted to 20 text recognitions and 200 email imports a day when being used unlicensed). But if you like what you see please feel free to upgrade at any time.

If you already own DEVONthink 1.x, no worries. You'll never have to purchase the application that you already own again for the full price. Click here to find out about your upgrade options.

If you purchased DEVONthink, DEVONnote, or a cross-grade from one edition to a higher one after July 1, 2008 you are eligible for a free 2.0 upgrade. Licenses purchased as part of a promotion bundle are not eligible for a free upgrade. If you have purchased DEVONthink or DEVONnote before July 1, 2008, or you have purchased them as part of a promotion bundle and you want to upgrade to version 2.0, we offer attractive upgrade prices.

Should you have not received your upgrade message, e.g. because you have recently changed your email address, or you cannot find it any more, simply request your upgrade through our Upgrade Assistent. Should you have changed your email address, please update your details.

Note: Starting with version 2.0 DEVONthink and DEVONnote require Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or higher. Databases of versions 1.x are not compatible but will be converted automatically to the new database format.
